Reviews, releases, and a lot of snow

It's a lazy Saturday here. Well...not that lazy. Lisa shoveled and then I shoveled, then I took Sunny for a walk, then I was challenged by remembering how to do 6th grade algebra so I could help a 6th grader with his algebra, then I sent an email to my students in jazz band followed by a video I made to help them understanding learning a song by ear. So...yeah...kind of lazy.

My good friend, Charles Savage, is getting great reviews for his composition, Mad Rush To the End that was recently recorded by Dieter Flury on his album, Aero: Contemporary Works For Flute. Originally composed for clarinet and tenor saxophone, Charles did an arrangement for two flutes. Here is a review in Take Effect and an interview with Charles by the record company, Parma Recordings. In addition to writing Mad Rush To the End for me, Charles also wrote Suite of Miniature Thoughts, that I premiered a few months ago.

In my last blog, I talked about the recording I just did with Courtney Krause and Jordan Mayland for Iowa Public Radio. Our version of Jingle Bells will be premiered this Sunday along with 40 other musicians and bands across Iowa. Join Iowa Public Radio Studio One and xBk for The Holiday Special, an original musical for a pandemic year at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Take care of yourselves and each other.
