October is here and it finally stopped raining in Des Moines. I've got two public shows this month, one wedding with BYOBrass, and you can hear me every Sunday morning on KFMG!

Sunday Morning Jazz : Take The Jazz Train September 6, 2026 at KFMG 98.9 FM. Another morning of great music! Most of the music played this morning came from my recent shopping excursion at Fabulous Jackpot Records in Portland, Oregon. I love finding a well stocked and friendly music store. I was in Portland attending GardenComm with my amazing wife, Lisa, that received six awards for her teaching, website, and more! Thank you to everyone that tuned-in this morning. I hope you'll join me every Sunday morning from 6 to 8 am (Central Time) for more Sunday Morning Jazz. All aboard!

The theme of Monday Night Live is "it only happens once" but in this rare case, we played the music twice. After a successful performance in the Fall of 2025 at xBk Live, our Bruce Springsteen show was booked at the Waukee Arts Festival for July 2026. It was a beautiful night and photographer Chole Grice captured it with her camera. Thanks, Chole and thank you for having us Waukee Arts Fest!

When you spend any amount of time with someone traveling, you develop your own language. "Eat the blue line" was our new way of saying "follow the directions." Nothing deep or articulate, just a comical way of making a statement.

I love playing music in any shape and form. Honestly, it's all I want to do. I'll be attending two jams next week that will surely be special.

I've always been a fan of the trio because it asks the question: what can you do with this? A friend of mine used to tell me that if you have three musical elements, you have everything you need. I think he's right. For many months, the songs for Lines + Lineage existed as saxophone, bass, and metronome. Now that the album has been out for three years and I've done shows as a quartet and quintet, it's fun to return to the original setting. Joining me for the evening was Ben Mars on bass and Cam Schneider on drums. Photos by Adam Orgler.
