1980
Started playing clarinet in school band.  Sometimes, I was the only student to show up and I got a lesson all to myself.  In 6th grade, I was one of two clarinetists.  In junior high, I was one of 15.  This would be my experience for the rest of my life: the minute I get confortable, a challenge would come along.
