BYOBrass, Seth Hedquist, my website, and making sense of things

It's February. I say that not to inform you but to say "wait...how did we get here?" I read years ago that time is perceived as slow when you are learning and fast when you are not. For example, children claim time moves slow while adults claim that it moves too fast. Perception makes life interesting.
I've been trying to understand my website more. This piece of internet real estate has some potential, I just need to invest in it. I've known this for a while. Time to do it. About 18 years ago, the grumpy old men that would come in the store would talk about Internet 2.0 and how it was going to ruin everything; they were right. Social media causes us to handover everything: our time, our creativity, our resources. I just want a place to call my own where you're invited to find out what I'm up to without ads, suggestions, engagement, or trends. You might see some new things on the site or in my newsletters. Let me know what you think.
I've been putting a lot of time into learning music for this Thursday February 5 at the Ingersoll Dinner Theatre with BYOBrass. I played last month and when I came home, I wrote in my journal: "I played with BYOBrass tonight at the Ingersoll Theatre. It was a blast! I felt good about all the work I did for tonight. I want to have more [music] memorized for next month." I'm happy to report that I have 11 of the 13 songs fully memorized. They didn't ask me to memorize anything but I just enjoy having the music internalized. It gives me the option to interact with the audience and the band more. I'd invite you to come but the show sold out last month...it's a good/bad problem to have. One thing I love is that the Ingersoll has a strict phone policy; no phones out during the show. I almost forgot what it was like to look out at an audience and not see a bunch of phones up; no joke. Lisa snapped this photo of the band when we walked on stage.

This Saturday February 7, I'm playing at the xBk Annex with Seth Hedquist. This event I am inviting you to but I should tell you there's room for about 40 people. We're going to play between 60 and 90 minutes of music starting at 8 pm. Doors open at 7 pm. The show is free but I politely ask you to add to the tip jar (cash or Venmo) or buy one of my last four copies of Lines + Lineage. A tasty beverage from the bar is another way to show support. They have a large selection of non-alcoholic beverages available. As I mentioned above, my website has a feature that allows me to create an event and promote it. The RSVP doesn't guarantee you a seat, it just tells me you plan to attend.
I'm also working on music with English and Monday Night Live. I have shows later this year with both groups and I'll be sure to tell you when I can. Until then, stay safe, and participate in democracy.
